Dhāṭṭu varisai

It is a series of phrases for singing and playing for early music practice, which uses dhāṭṭu (gamaka) style swara combinations, in a jumping or non regular fashion. This refers to one of the initial exercises taught in music wherein the notes in the phrases jump in an irregular fashion. This is sometimes referred to as Thāndu Varisai.
