Swarasthana in Carnatic Music – Basic (Female Voice)

Students strengthen fundamental elements of Music through rigorous practice of Saralivarisais and its variations in different speeds. Students are going to study in brief about Basic terminologies in Carnatic Music such as Tambura, Nadha, Shruthi, Swara, Sapthaswara, Raga, Thala, Kala, Laya, Arohana and Avarohana. Students are also going to learn the basic lessons such as Swaravali and their variations Dhatu Swaravali (Sarali), Kalapramana Swaravali along with General theory and Applied theory.
The students undergo a rigorous training in the basics of Carnatic music under Sarali Varisai exercises to strengthen their basics concepts of music. The practice of Saralivarisai (swaravali) will enable a student to
  • Have a firm grounding on Swarasthanas (position of musical notes) & Perfect Sruthi (pitch) alignment
  • Explore the Swaras (Musical notes) in three octaves
  • Enable the student achieve a firm grip on the Rhythm or Laya.
  • Culture the voice with vocal exercises by singing all lessons in four speeds (4 kaalas) and specific voice culture exercisesin Akara, Ikara, Ukara, Ekara and Hmmkara.
Students are provided with high quality in depth step by step instructional videos, watching which they learn and present the same during one on one online class with the instructors helping them to enhance their learning. Audio downloads, Shruti downloads, Notations, Glossary and PDF’s are provided to help the students in their practice. Students will have online assessments at the end of every module.
This is a modular course under Carnatic Music Basics. A modular course is defined as a part of the main course that can stand-alone. The topics are related and when combined with all other parts, become the entire course. The advantage of taking Modular course is that it can be taken as and when the student has time to do the course and also offers flexibility in payment option. Here, Sthayi Sarali Varisai is part of the main Basic course in Carnatic music.
